Confessions of a Sadistic DM

A random place for me to post homebrew content, tell stories from campaigns, or just share amusing DnD-related things I find around the internet. My main blog is panromanticgargleblasters.

  • Searing Brand (holy longsword of Pelor)

In its rightful owner’s hands, this sword has the following stats:

    +4 longsword

Properties: Radiates dim light at will. Does an additional 4d6 radiant damage vs foes vulnerable to radiant damage. Crits on 19+. Is a d10 weapon (instead of d8). Owner gains resist 10 radiant while wielding it. Adds +4 bonus to attack and damage rolls.

Crit: +4d8 radiant damage and target is blinded (save ends).

At will power (free action): turns all damage done by the sword into radiant damage until the end of the encounter. Another free action ends this effect.

Encounter power (minor action): close blast 3, all enemies in blast. Attack: wis vs fort. Hit: 2d6+wis mod radiant damage and target is blinded (save ends). Undead targets are also pushed to the nearest unoccupied square outside of the blast, even if the attack missed.

Encounter utility (free action): Trigger: you hit a target with this sword. Effect: the target gains vulnerable 5 radiant (save ends). This stacks with any existing vulnerabilities or resistances that the target may have.

Daily utility (free action): Trigger: you hit a target with this sword and deal more than 30 points of damage. Effect: The target gains vulnerable 10 radiant until the end of the encounter. This stacks with any existing vulnerabilities or resistances that the target may have.

…in anyone else’s hands, the sword has the following properties:

    +1 longsword.

Properties: Does an additional 1d4 radiant damage vs undead. Adds +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls.

    Crit: +1d6 radiant damage.

Only one such sword exists. It may only be attuned to a person by Pelor or one of his avatars. Once attuned to a person, that person becomes the sword’s rightful owner until he/she dies.
